Test prints
Using one of the color symbol fonts I created to represent DNA alleles, I translated the raw DNA data for all 23 of my chromosomes to one large document. The chromosomes are divided into horizontal sections. With each allele measuring at .1 in x .05 in, the complete document is 60 in x 114 in (5 ft x 9.5 ft).
Seeing this full scale presents some interesting possibilities for applications. I can envision custom DNA textile prints, for example. However my initial goal with the project was to highlight similarities and differences in the DNA of related individuals. So I still need to find a way to make those visual comparisons. The final version of this project may or may not be a printed solution, it could become interactive in some way. I am exploring the possibilities offered by the open source data visualization software Processing.
